This topic “Sermon on the power of a praying woman” is one topic that is essential in every woman’s life.

Throughout the Bible and in our present era, powerful prayers of women are recorded. A lot of courageous women debarred the norms, culture, and traditions which even in the Old Testament setting saw men as the spiritual leaders and the liaisons to God. Their persistence and resilience to prayers and faith in God brought tremendous changes to the world.

Luke 18:1″ And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not faint”

Who Is A woman?

A woman can receive a seed(conception), incubate it, bring forth the product of that seed, and stand firm to nurture what she births to maturity.  To receive a seed a woman needs an intimate relationship with a man (her husband) on earth. Isaiah 54:5 tells us “For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called”

The seed may be an idea, a skill, or a Spiritual gift that will be of great benefit to the world. She takes steps to incubate the seed- this could be achieved by training, studying the word, and waiting on God through prayer to receive wisdom on how to handle the seed given to her by her maker (God) This requires focus and self-discipline.

God fashioned women to be child bearers. A woman’s womb, breasts, hips, and hormones were uniquely designed for conceiving and giving life. There is an inborn nature in a woman to nurture, labor, and love not only her biological children but even those in her sphere of influence.

When God created Adam and Eve. He commanded them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the  earth and subdue it (Genesis 1:28) “And God bless them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the  air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth”

A praying woman prays every day and in every season. She is not limited by geography, class, status, background, or age.

Sermon On The Power Of A Praying Woman

There are various stories in the Bible of women who displayed strength in prayers fervently and remained strong in the faith. Their trust and dependence were in God.

Sarah – The Barren Wife of Abraham

(Genesis 21:5-7)Sarah was unable to conceive a child during her reproductive years as a woman and the fertility window had closed. She and her husband Abraham believed God for the fruit of the womb and they prayed ceaselessly. God visited them and blessed the womb of Sarah with a child despite the physical and medical declared impossible situation.

When Sarah received a message from the angel to this effect she expressed her joy (Genesis 21:6)” And Sarah said, God hath made me laugh so that all that hear will laugh with me” and she also expressed her wonder(Genesis 21:7)” Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age” She prayerfully nurtured the child (Isaac) to maturity”

Hannah – The Mother of God’s Prophet Samuel

(1 Samuel 1:8-27) She was selfless in prayer, crying day and night to God to bless her womb with a male child. When God blessed her womb with a son (Samuel), she made a huge sacrifice by dedicating  Samuel to service in the temple of God to be raised as a priest in keeping her vow to God. This particular action of hers changed the direction of the priesthood in Israel.

God used Samuel tremendously and powerfully in prophecy, judgment, and teaching. This whole scenario started with a woman on her knees.

Esther – The Queen Who Rescued The Jews From Haman

(Esther, chapters 1-10) Though God is not mentioned in the entire book, it is clear that Esther and her uncle(Mordecai) had a deep and abiding faith in God. Esther’s faith was expressed in fasting and prayers (Esther 4:15-16) She asked her uncle to gather all the Jews in Shushan to fast for three days and night and that she and her maidens would likewise do the same. She was fearless. Despite the law in the domain of King Ahasuerus for no woman to approach him without being called to do so. Through her lifestyle of praying, God positioned Esther to change the world powerfully, and her entire race was spared a holocaust.

Noami – The Hopeless

(Ruth 4:14-17) The book of Ruth gives an account of the devastating situation. Noami, after the death of her husband (Elimelech) and two sons (Mahlon and Chilion) in the hostile land of Moab, decided to return to her hometown of Bethlehemjudah. The sons had left behind their Moabitess wives (Orpah and Ruth). Noami though faced with famine and the pain of losing her loved ones, steadfastly prayed to God for help.

This lifestyle of prayer endeared her daughter-in-law (Ruth) to cleave to her(Ruth 1:16-17), choosing the God and people of Israel as hers. God answered Noami’s prayers and blessed her with a grandchild named Obed through Ruth and Boaz. Obed is the father of Jesse, the grandfather of David whose lineage is the Messiah, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Deborah the prophetess in the Bible

(Judges 5:1-31)  Imagine a woman like Deborah amidst a million men; rose in the land when all pleasantry ceased.
Nothing was happening in her time until she arose (Judges 5:7) “The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel”. A woman of prayer changes the situation of her family and land for good. She is a chain breaker and a warrior.

She went to confide in Elizabeth, her cousin who trains and directs her by confirming through prophecy what the angel had revealed to Mary. Mary sang the magnificent to glorify God for what He wanted to use her to accomplish in the world.

Anna – The Widow Prophetess

The prophetess Anna (Luke2:36-38) , is a daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher. She was married for seven years and became a widow for about eighty-four years. She did not depart from the temple but prayed earnestly to witness the birth of the Messiah. What Is The Power Of A Praying Woman?

The power of a praying woman is not dependent on her strength nor her volume of words but on the one she prays to (God Almighty) who delights in answering the prayer of the righteous.

A praying woman thinks beyond herself. She understands what 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; For the kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight  of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”

A praying woman always yearns for her lover- The Lord Jesus Christ (Songs of Solomon 5:8) “I charge you, o daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love” She always desire to be in the presence of her Maker (husband). She is sick of the Lord,  she is never perfectly at ease except in a state of nearness to Christ.

She understands when she is away from her lover, she loses her peace. She understands in His presence she finds joy, vigor, life, satisfaction, and fulfillment. This is brought about by her constant intercourse or relationship with her lover- Jesus Christ.

What the sun is to the day, the moon to the night, bread to the hungry, clothing to the naked such is Christ to a praying woman. She lacks nothing in life, both physical and spiritual (Matthew 5:3-13) A praying woman inherits many attributes such as:

  • Salt of the earth-Mathew 5:13
  • light of the world-Matthew 5:14
  • Child of  God -John 1:12
  • Joint heir with Christ – Romans 8:14
  • Chosen of God – John 15:16
  • Temple of God – 1Corinthians 3:16
  • Dearly loved of God – Colossians 3:12
  • Righteous and holy – Ephesians 4:24
  • Blessed with every Spiritual blessing – Ephesians 1:3
  • New creation – 2 Corinthians 5:17

A praying woman receives answers to her prayers, changes her world, raises Godly children, prays salvation over an unsaved member of her family or society, and impacts leaders whom she mentors, encourages, and teaches. She enjoys a deep sense of the Lord’s presence.

A praying woman is termed a virtuous woman ( Proverbs 31:10-30)” Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her so that he shall not need spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised”

A praying woman has the Jesus kind of ministry which is a ministry that loses nothing entrusted in his care except the son of perdition. She prayerfully secures all that belongs to her.

Conclusion

The power of a praying woman is a terror to the kingdom of darkness; her weapons of war are very loud and deafening.

Prayer is a Spiritual exercise that can never be unproductive. A praying woman understands the efficacy of her relationship with her Maker through prayer. She employs it to access her Maker’s immeasurable riches. Matthew 7:7 says “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”
Rise today in prayer and change the negative situation in your family, environment, and ungodly decrees and ordinances in society.
